Il nordirlandese con la Honda vince gara 1 dopo un bel duello con il giapponese dell'Aprilia. Lo spagnolo, terzo nella prima manche, si aggiudica la seconda prova e ora è pronto a festeggiare il titolo, gli basterà il 13° posto a Magny Cours

Sulla pista di casa la Ducati rinvia la festa Mondiale per tre soli punti. Ma l'attesa sarà breve perché Carlos Checa può tagliare il traguardo nel GP di Francia di domenica prossima a Magny Cours, penultimo round stagionale: gli basta un banalissimo tredicesimo posto in una delle quattro manche che restano, ammesso che Melandri (finora tre successi) le vinca tutte. La marca italiana è sempre più vicina anche al titolo Costruttori: +65 punti su 100 in palio.

batteria — Checa ha vinto con un po' di fortuna gara 2 approfittando di un problema alla batteria che ha ammutolito la Honda di Jonathan Rea largamente in testa dopo aver dominato la prima sfida. “Mi dispiace per lui ma Imola era la festa del popolo Ducati (78 mila spettatori, n.d.r.) quindi è stato bello così. Il Mondiale ormai è nostro e sarà bello cullare l'attesa per altri sette giorni”.
palmares — Il palmares 2011 di Carlito è sempre più brillante: 12 vittorie (17 in carriera) e 18 podi in 22 gare. Marco Melandri, unico inseguitore rimasto dopo il forfait di Max Biaggi fermato dalla frattura al piede sinistro, non è mai stato in gioco. Ha aperto la giornata con un sofferto ottavo posto (problemi di gomma) e ha concluso con un sudatissimo sesto dopo un'uscita di pista, retrocessione al dodicesimo e rimonta finale. In serata il ravennate della Yamaha ha definito i dettagli dell'accordo 2012 con Bmw: la firma potrebbe essere questione di ore. Il rammarico di Biaggi è stato acuito dalle belle prestazioni della RSV4 con due secondi posti del satellite Noriyuki Haga e il terzo dello scudiero Leon Camier. Althea Ducati rider Carlos Checa moved to within a whisker of securing his first World Superbike championship with victory in race two at Imola after Jonathan Rea suffered a mechanical problem while leading the race.
Checa leads championship rival Marco Melandri by 97 points going into the final two rounds, as Melandri finished sixth, despite running off track.
Rea again dominated the race, moving to the front right from the start. Rea was leading by three seconds from Checa with five laps to go when he slowed and let Checa passed. Rea looked to then pick up the pace, but it was clear there was a problem with his Castrol Honda Fireblade, forcing the Irishman to retire.
PATA Aprilia rider Noriyuki Haga took second place again after a poor start. Factory Aprilia rider Leon Camier took the final step on the podium - a great result for the Brit after he struggled in race one, finishing 15th.
Eugene Laverty and Leon Haslam made it three Brits in the top five, finishing fourth and fifth respevtively.

IMOLA - Carlos Checa subito davanti a tutti nel primo turno di prove libere del Gran Premio di Imola, 11esimo round del mondiale Superbike. Il portacolori della Ducati del team Althea, che già questo weekend può laurearsi iridato, ha fermato il cronometro sul tempo di 1'49''294, precedendo di 237 millesimi la Bmw di Leon Haslam. Marco Melandri ha trovato subito il giusto feeling con i sali e scendi del Santerno, piazzando la sua Yamaha al terzo posto con il crono di 1'49''782.

Il pilota di Ravenna ha preceduto la Ducati del team Effenbert-Liberty Racing di Jakub Smrz (1'49''910) e la Castrol Honda di Jonathan Rea equipaggiata del sistema "ride by wire" che facilita il pilota in fase

Il "Pirata" di Jesi si è messo alle spalle gente del calibro di Noriyuki Haga, in difficoltà con la sua Aprilia del team Pata con il 13esimo crono, e Troy Corser, solo 15esimo con la Bmw. Lo spagnolo, vincitore dell’appuntamento Moto2 sammarinese dello scorso anno, scatta dall’ultima piazza della griglia di partenza, divertendosi a girare sul’1:36 basso nella prima parte della gara. Superata la metà, gli stessi problemi delle prove hanno cominciato ad infastidire il numero 24, che a quel punto non è più riuscito a mantenere il passo dei suoi avversari che si faceva sempre più incalzante giro dopo giro.

Il pilota dell'Aprilia non ha preso via al GP di Germania a causa della frattura al piede subìta in qualifica. Lo spagnolo della Ducati domina in gara uno e chiude definitivamente il Mondiale anche grazie al diluvio di gara 2, vinta da Sykes
Niente da fare per Max Biaggi. Il campione dell'Aprilia non ha preso il via nel GP di Germania, decima prova del Mondiale Superbike, vinto dal dolore per la frattura del primo metatarso del piede sinistro conseguenza dell'urto con un oggetto metallico sparato da una moto che precedeva durante le qualifiche di venerdi. Biaggi aveva inizialmente subìto solo una contusione ma guidando per cinquantadue giri nelle qualifiche del sabato l'osso ha ceduto pregiudicando la possibilità di correre. “Ci ho provato, ho preso il'antidolorifico ed ero riuscito ad infilare il piede fratturato in uno stivale quattro misure più grande del normale ma provandomi in sella mezz'ora prima del via ho capito che non sarei riuscito a fare forza sul piede” ha commentato Max.

mondiale chiuso — La contemporanea vittoria in solitario di Carlos Checa (Ducati) ha definitivamente chiuso il Mondiale 2011. Secondo posto in rimonta per Marco Melandri (Yamaha) dopo un dritto a metà gara che lo aveva retrocesso in quarta posizione: adesso il ravennate è secondo in classifica davanti a Biaggi ma a ben 76 punti dallo spagnolo quando ne restano 175 in palio. Terza l'Aprilia del giapponese Noriyuki Haga.
diluvio — La seconda gara, partita sotto il diluvio e interrotta al tredicesimo dei venti giri, è stata una lottera che ha premiato il primo successo del britannico Tom Sykes con la Kawasaki. Beffa per il giapponese Noriyuki Haga (Aprilia) sempre davanti ma scivolato un attimo prima dello stop. Il battistrada Carlos Checa è arrivato ottavo lasciando appena due punti all'inseguitore Melandri. A tre round dalla fine (sei gare, 150 punti) lo spagnolo ha 376 punti contro 302 del ravennate. Biaggi scivolata al terzo posto con 281 punti. Prossimo round il 25 settembre a Imola, dove per la Ducati potrebbe essere festa anticipata.

Carlos Checa roared to an emphatic 11th win of the season, while Tom Sykes clinched his first-ever World Superbikes win in Nurburgring.


Tom Sykes lived up to his reputation as a wet-race specialist to seize advantage of treacherous conditions and clinch his first-ever World Superbikes win in race two at the Nurburgring.
Sykes’ previous best was a second place finish as a wildcard in his World Superbikes debut at Donington Park in 2008, but the Kawasaki Racing Brit rode the perfect risk-free race to ensure he topped the podium for the first time.
With the race red flagged on lap 14 due to the track becoming increasingly rain-drenched, Sykes clung on after Nori Haga had led throughout only for the Japanese veteran to spectacularly skid off on lap 12.
Frenchman Sylvan Guintoli rode through in second place and teammate Jakub Smrz merely had to stay on his Team Effenbert-Liberty Racing bike to clinch the final podium spot as riders fell all around them.
Damage limitation was clearly on the mind of runaway championship leader Carlos Checa, who opted for a damage-limitation approach as he finished in eighth, as his closest title rival Marco Melandri went two places better in sixth.
With riders erring on the side of caution, Haga settled into his stride but Sykes gambled to dash past Laverty into second with Guintoli and Smrz riding close behind.
Haga, seemingly unaffected by the constantly teeming rain, rode tight lines and maintained his lead as Sykes, Guintoli and Smrz held firm, while Brit Leon Camier perished on lap 12 as he sought to force the issue.
As riders began to slip and slide on every corner, Haga lost all control and flew off the track, gifting Sykes the lead two laps before the red flag brought a much-justified premature finish to proceedings.
Jonathan Rea threw caution to the wind, which paid off despite a few shaky moments, as he clinched fourth place ahead of Eugene Laverty, while James Toseland took a painful-looking highside fall on lap eight.
The pelting conditions got the better of Leon Haslam as the BMW Mottorrad Motorsport rider tipped too far on lap three but he recovered to land ninth as only 13 riders made the finish line with Sykes standing top of the podium.

RACE ONE REPORT
Carlos Checa roared to an emphatic 11th win of the season to surge even further away from his closest World Superbike rivals in race one at the Nurburgring.
The Spanish master was in unstoppable form, seizing the advantage with defending champion Max Biaggi sidelined due to a cracked bone in his foot after being struck by a piece of loose debris on Friday.
Ruled out of both of today’s races, Biaggi’s dreams of retaining his championship are all but over, and, after an error on lap six, nearest challenger Marco Melandri couldn’t get close to the imperious Checa, who finished 1.85 seconds ahead to command an 81-point lead in the Championship standings.
Melandri’s Yamaha fended off the challenge of Japanese veteran Nuri Haga to secure second, completing the podium without being troubled by Melandri’s Irish teammate Eugene Laverty in fourth.
Checa flew off the front row with Melandri and Laverty hanging on his tail while winner of race two at last year’s Nurburgring round, Haga, surged through from further down the pack.
Liam Haslam made early moves on fellow Brit Tom Sykes in an attempt to join the early pace-setters, but by lap two the front runners had established a four-man breakaway pack.
Despite early pressure from Melandri and Haga, the veteran Spaniard was unruffled from the off, riding perfect lines to give his rivals no opportunity to pass.
Checa’s closest challenger Melandri squeezed past Haga on lap five and began to bear down on the leader but a wobble on lap six saw his hopes dashed as he slipped back behind Haga and Laverty.
Haslam’s race hopes took a serious dent after running off track on lap six, losing serious time on the leading pack, but the BMW Mottorrad Motorsport rider responded well to clinch fifth.
Leon Camier’s sharp moves on lap 12 saw him make up for lost ground to grab eighth, while compatriot Jonathan Rea, the other winner on this track last season, finished strongly to secure tenth, one place ahead of Sykes.
Jose Toseland rode his 200th race but it would be one to forget, starting on the back row of the grid, the double World Superbike champion rolled home in 13th place as Checa once again claimed all the glory.

Gara 2 è andata meglio, dopo che in gara 1 Carlos aveva un grosso vantaggio: abbiamo cambiato gomma e questo ha portato un netto miglioramento, ma ogni volta che mi avvicinavo a Carlos, lui aveva modo di reagire. Le Yamaha si sono comportate bene qui, l’anno scorso avevano collezionato 2 vittorie, quest’anno abbiamo 2 piloti sul podio».MELANDRI - Sul podio anche Marco Melandri: «E’ stata una buona gara, abbiamo cambiato gomma in gara 2 per avere più grip a sinistra, ma il passo di gara all’inizio era più veloce, quindi è stata dura star dietro agli altri. Carlos Checa took Ducati's 300th World Superbike Championship race win and tightened his grip on the world title with a double victory at Silverstone on Sunday. The Althea Ducati rider won both races at the Northamptonshire circuit to extend his lead over the reigning champion Max Biaggi to 62 points.
Checa took two comfortable race wins – the first victory was Ducati's 300th in the series and the second on the occasion of his 100th race in the championship – as Biaggi struggled to 11th and fourth places on the Alitalia Aprilia.
Eugene Laverty of Ireland took two second places and his factory Yamaha team-mate Marco Melandri was third both times out.
Checa said of his race one win: "It was 300 wins for Ducati. It was on my mind and on the minds of the team." He added after race two: "It was a fantastic weekend. I didn't know it was my 100th race but I will remember forever this weekend."
With four rounds to go Checa looked ahead to the next round in Germany rather than at his title chances. "There are still many races to go but now we will arrive at Nurburgring a little bit more comfortable," he said.
Checa won the opening race by three seconds after taking over control from Laverty. The Irishman held out for second on the podium ahead of Melandri who had enough of a gap to hold off BMW's Leon Haslam.
On pole, John Hopkins (Samsung Crescent Suzuki) had been in contention for victory but eventually faded to fifth, with Leon Camier (Alitalia Aprilia) and Nori Haga (Pata Aprilia) both seeing their hopes of challenging for the win come to nothing.
Haga had challenged early on before crashing and Camier had to retire out of third place, on lap 15 of 18, with an electrical problem as he closed in on Laverty.
Checa's win was made sweeter by the fact that his title rival Biaggi could only finish 11th, losing 10th on the final lap to Ayrton Badovini (BMW). Behind Hopkins in fifth was Sylvain Guintoli (Effenbert Ducati), with Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki) in seventh ahead of Maxime Berber (Supersonic Ducati) and Troy Corser (BMW).
James Toseland (BMW) made his return from a serious wrist injury but was 20 seconds adrift of Biaggi in 12th.
Checa took another comfortable win in race two after passing early leader Laverty with his team-mate Melandri again in third. It was behind the front two that the real action took place.
Camier had looked set for the third place on the podium but Melandri and then Biaggi both passed him late in the race. Melandri held out to take third ahead of Biaggi who had worked his way up to fourth from seventh after putting in a succession of fastest laps.
Camier was forced to settle for fifth with Hopkins eventually fading from pole to sixth. Guintoli deprived Haslam of seventh, with Michel Fabrizio (Alstare Suzuki) and Badovini rounding out the top 10. Toseland defied the pain to finish a brave 13th.

Monterey, 24 July: On a near perfect summer’s day with air temperature of 23 degrees LCR Honda MotoGP Team racer Toni Elias managed to finish the 32-lap Californian round in 13th position despite his usual front end issues. His team mate Ben Bostrom took a good start from the last spot on the grid ahead 52.070 country fellows dropping his lap time of one second after the first lap. Unfortunately the American SBK rider went wide into the gravel twice and preferred to enter the garage trying not to crash his RCV no. 23.

Now the MotoGP Championship is “on holiday” and premier class riders will be back on track on the 14th of August for the Czech Republic GP in Brno.

Elias: “In this morning warm up we have changed rear set up of the bike and I felt immediately better. As always I took a good start but on this track you get stuck if you start from the last row so I pushed but in the first corner I went a bit wide. I was 12th when I suddenly lost the front running off into the gravel. I could rejoin the race but for the rest of the race I felt like I was lapping on a frozen surface. We have finished the race in 13th position but the situation is still very tough for us”.

Bostrom: “I took a good start and immediately felt very comfortable on the bike. I improved my lap time of one second from the practice so I was very optimistic to see that so early in the race. As I was riding so much faster I started to be uncomfortable in the first corner when I had to shift down because my foot hit the ground and after few laps I made a mistake running off the track into the gravel. It took me 30 seconds to rejoin the race but I wanted to continue but the next lap I had the same problem. So I have decided to enter the pits even if the bike was fantastic. Honestly I was thinking about my race and didn’t want to crash this bike. Once again I want to thank MJM, Lucio and all the guys here: it was an incredible experience for m e!”

Monterey, 24 Luglio: in una tipica giornata estiva con una temperatura media di 23° gradi, il pilota del Team LCR Honda MotoGP Toni Elias ha chiuso al 13° posto il GP Californiano nonostante i soliti problemi all’anteriore. Il suo compagno di squadra Ben Bostrom ha fatto un’ottima partenza dall’ultima fila davanti a 52.070 connazionali guadagnano un secondo solo nel primo giro ma un inghippo con il cambio ha fatto uscire di pista due volte il pilota Statunitense che ha preferito rientrare al box per preservare le energie per la sua gara SBK ed evitare inutili rischi alla sua RCV no. 23.

Adesso il Campionato MotoGP è “in vacanza” e i piloti della classe regina torneranno in pista a Brno per il GP della Repubblica Ceca il 14 Agosto.

Elias: “Nel warm up di questa mattina abbiamo fatto delle modifiche sul posteriore e sembrava che lo cose andassero meglio. Come sempre sono partito bene ma su questa pista se parti dall’ultima fila rimani bloccato per questo ho azzardato un po’ e nella prima curva sono finito un po’ largo. Ero 12° quando ho perso il controllo dell’anteriore finendo sulla ghiaia. Sono ripartito ma per tutta la gara è stato come guidare su una superficie ghiacciata. Abbiamo finito in 13° posizione ma la situazione è ancora difficile per noi”.

Bostrom: “Ho fatto una buona partenza e mi sono sentito subito bene in sella alla moto. Ho migliorato il mio tempo sul giro di un secondo rispetto alle prove ed ero ottimista perché la gara si prospettava interessante. Ero veloce ma ho iniziato a far fatica alla prima curva quando dovevo scalare le marce e il mio piedi urtava l’asfalto così dopo qualche giro ho fatto un errore e sono finito nella ghiaia. Mi ci sono voluti quasi 30 secondi per rientrare in pista ma il giro successivo mi è successo di nuovo. Così ho deciso di rientrare al box anche se la moto andava benissimo. Onestamente stavo pensando anche alla gara che dovevo affrontare dopo e non volevo cadere e danneggiare la mia RCV. Ancora una volta voglio ringraziare la MJM, Lucio e la squadra: è stata un’esperienza incredibile per me!”.

Race Two
Checa blitzed the field under sunny race conditions to take a double after a crash for Marco Melandri brought out the red flag just 10 laps into the second race. That set up a 14 lap sprint in the second leg, with Checa charging ahead of Max Biaggi and Noriyuki Haga to take the race.
Suffering from his practice crash, Troy Corser pulled out of race one early and never made the grid for race two, while fellow Aussie Mark Aitchison slipped to 16th with a mechanical issue in race one before retiring on lap six of race two.
The third Australian in the field, Chris Vermeulen, had a difficult run to 14th in race one before completing race two for the first time in 2011 a stellar 10th place.
Checa now leads the championship on 245 points from Biaggi on 173. Melandri's crash sees him slip to 23 points adrift of his compatriot on 150 points.

Race One
The Spaniard had to get a lift back to Parc Ferme from fellow Spaniard Ruben Xaus after stalling his bike during the celebration lap.
It was the second week in a row Checa has had difficulty celebrating a race one win after crashing in the mud at Miller post-race.
With Jonathon Rea absent from 11th on the grid following a crash in the morning warm-up, Tom Sykes led the World Superbike field off the line at his home race, at least until turn four when compatriot Leon Haslam pounced.
Despite starting seventh on the grid, reigning champion Max Biaggi barged to the lead on lap two ahead of Haslam on the BMW who would only make it to lap nine before he was ejected from his bike in a frightening high-side.
Michele Fabrizio never made it past lap two, the Italian crashing out at the tight hairpin while Jakub Smrz’s run came to an end on lap three, the Czech rider high-siding out of the final turn in front of the field and lucky not to be hit.
Troy Corser and Noriyuki Haga were the next retirements, Haga pulling off track with a mechanical issue while Corser was still suffering the effects of his massive crash in practice.
Current points leader Carlos Checa reeled in and passed reigning champion Biaggi on lap 12 as the two raced a battle of their own at the front.
Checa edged out a small margin when Biaggi ran wide with nine laps to go, and from there was never really challenged for the win, coming home 1.6 seconds clear of Biaggi with Melandri a further 14 seconds behind.
Australian Mark Aitchison got as high 12th before a mechanical issue ended his solid run just three laps from home, while Chris Vermeulen in his first real return to World Superbike in 2011 managed to get home for 14th as Aitchison limped across the line for 16th, one lap down.

MISANO (Rimini) domenica 12 giugno 2011 – Max Biaggi stringe i denti, soffre per la microfrattura alla cartilagine dell'astragalo del piede sinistro ma non può nulla contro Carlos Checa che domina anche a Misano e vola alla conquista della Superbike. La Ducati ha dominato con il 38enne spagnolo la sesta prova (su tredici) del Mondiale a Misano compiendo un altro passo verso l'iride: per Checa si tratta infatti dell'ottavo trionfo in stagione, 13° della carriera. La marca italiana raggiunge quota 299 successi in 576 gare iridate.

gara 1 — Nella prima gara Biaggi era scattato benissimo dalla seconda fila prendendo il comando al secondo giro. Ma Checa, quarto all'inizio, è stato implacabile, ha annullato in fretta il secondo di divario e prima di metà gara ha compiuto, con facilità, il sorpasso decisivo. Podio completato da Marco Melandri (Yamaha) giunto terzo, ma con un ritardo abissale, più di 18 secondi.
gara 2 — È stata fermata al decimo dei ventiquattro giri per la scivolata di Melandri volato sull'olio. Poco dopo la corsa è ripartita da zero per completare la distanza senza Melandri impossibilitato a riportare la Yamaha in griglia nei cinque minuti regolamentari. Lo stop non ha cambiato nulla: Biaggi è ripartito davanti, ma Checa lo ha braccato senza pietà finchè Max non ha commesso un errore alla curva del Tramonto spalancando la porta al più forte. A sette round dalla fine (quattordici gare) Carlito sale a 245 punti guadagna ulteriore terreno sugli inseguitori italiani: Biaggi 173 punti, Melandri 150. Elias takes positive 11th in a thrilling french gp

Le Mans, 15 May: In a thrilling 28-lap race LCR Honda MotoGP rider Toni Elias finished 11th in today’s French Grand Prix at a cloudy “24 heures circuit du Mans” which saw Stoner taking his second victory. Toni Elias had a tough time in qualifying, ending yesterday afternoon’s session in 17th, albeit only 2.280s down on pole position but the Spaniard took a good start from the last spot on the grid engaging a close battle with a 4-rider group.

At 15 laps to go, when he was leading the group, Elias had a small highside banging his foot on the bike but he stayed on proceeding his positive race and gaining further 5 points in the world standing. Elias will return on track for his home GP in Catalunya on the 5th of June.

Elias - 11th: "We have been afraid about the warm up of the tyres because the track temperature was colder compared to the practices but at the end it was not so bad. Our rear traction problem is not solved yet but now I can see progressive improvements and I want to thank the team for their good work. When I was leading the small group in the back I thought that I could catch Aoyama but suddenly I have suffered a bike shaking banging my feet on the fairing. My leather security airbag activated and I could not ride properly for a couple of laps till it went down. After that I pushed to catch the group again but could not finish in the top ten. Anyway it has been a positive week end and I hope to see a further improvements at my home GP".




ELIAS TERMINA 11° IN UN ELETTRIZZANTE GP DI FRANCIA




Le Mans, 15 May: il pilota del Team LCR Honda MotoGP Toni Elias ha concluso in 11° posizione il GP di Francia che si è svolto oggi sotto un cielo minaccioso sul circuito “24 Heures du Mans” che ha visto Stoner aggiudicarsi la seconda vittoria in sella alla Honda. Toni Elias ha sofferto un poco nelle qualifiche di ieri terminando solo 17° ma senza perdersi d’animo è partito bene dall’ultima fila infilandosi in una quartetto molto agguerrito.

A 15 giri dalla fine, quando Elias era in testa al gruppetto, la moto ha preso un’imbracata e lo Spagnolo ha urtato il piede sulla carena ma è rimasto saldamente in sella per finire la gara e portare a casa altri 5 punti nella classifica Mondiale. Elisa sarà di nuovo in pista il prossimo 5 Giugno per il suo GP di casa a Montmeló (Catalogna).

Elias – 11°: "Eravamo un po’ preoccupati perché l’asfalto era più freddo rispetto alle prove e temevamo di non riuscire a scaldare abbastanza le gomme ma alla fine la situazione non era così male. Ci resta sempre il problema di trazione da risolvere ma adesso vedo dei miglioramenti e questa progressione mi rende più sereno. Quando ero in testa al gruppetto ho pensato di poter prendere anche Aoyama lì davanti ma quell’imbarcata a metà gara mi ha spiazzato. Ho battuto il piede sulla carena e l’airbag della tuta si è attivato: per quasi 2 giri non sono riuscito a guidare agilmente ma quando si è sgonfiato ho ripreso il mio ritmo. Non sono riuscito a chiudere nei primi dieci ma questo è stato un altro week end positivo e spero di vedere altri miglioramenti nel GP di casa mia".

• Althea Ducati rider seals fourth victory of the season


Carlos Checa increased his lead in the Superbike World Championship with his fourth win of the season from six races.

The Althea Ducati rider now leads on 132 points to the 89 of Alitalia Aprilia's Max Biaggi, the reigning champion, after taking the second race win at Assen in the Netherlands. Marco Melandri, on the factory Yamaha, lies in third place on 85 points with Castrol Honda's Jonathan Rea, who won the first race today, moving up to fourth on 79.

Rea took his first win of the season in race one ahead of Biaggi and Checa. Fourth went to Melandri, with Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare) fifth and Troy Corser (BMW) in sixth. Leon Haslam, Corser's team-mate, survived a fast early crash to recover to finish 12th but saw his title hopes take a bad hit.

Checa and Biaggi fought it out for the victory in race two and it looked as if the latter would win it after passing the long-time leader late on. However, Checa reclaimed the lead on the final lap to extend his points advantage to 43 with his fourth win in the season's six races.

Rea won the contest with Melandri for third when the Yamaha rider fell, with Biaggi's team-mate Leon Camier claiming fourth ahead of Haslam and Eugene Laverty on the second factory Yamaha
